Interoperability Overview

When trying to improve interoperability, a lot of the issues that need to be resolved revolve around developing or modifying standards and protocols that are used to define how various things should be done.

In these pages we examine a number of areas with the objective of improving interoperability:

  • Metadata — discusses the types of metadata including observational, structural and administrative metadata; it also cover derived metadat and search metadata, resource description, etc.
  • Files — covers issues related to naming and storing files and header information describing the contents of the file.

Relevant Reference Material replated to the discussions is available here

We have sister site that covers some of the areas of interoperability in more detail; you are encouraged to visit this site.
